video camera formatting problem HELP !
« on: March 17, 2011, 22:08:37 PM »
A few months back I bought a Lumix FZ35 camera with combined video camera, I loved the little beauty,
Now from my trip to Mt. Leinster I have been having problems with the videos !!!!!!!!!!!!
Adobe and Picaso see the still pictures but the videos donot show on my PC !
This problem has just started, and I am miffed as to the cause and to the solution.
I read some were about codec and that XP windows/ windows movie maker, sony vega does not recognise AVCHD Lite files, but I can assure you my PC and Sony vega recognised them 2 weeks ago.

IF THERE IS ANYONE THAT KNOWS ABOUT THESE THING PLEASE CAN THEY HELP.

Hi Richard,
Thats a nice camera you have both.
Could you specifie what you mean with ... "but the videos do not show on my PC ! " You mean that you can play them OR that they dont show up in the explorer when you browse the SDcard?
First check your baby what format is she recording in.. is it AVCHD or the Motion jpeg (xxxxxxx.MOV). I have Panasonic my self and it uses Motion Jpeg format . In this case u will have to instal a Quick Time Video codec otherwise it wont play. And XP moviemaker doesnt support .MOV files, so you will have to get video converter to convert it to either .avi or .mpeg files.
AVCHD files are using mpeg-4 decoding and XP Mediaplayer should handel this files easy.

I thing that the .MOV files are your problem :?:  but well, I could be wrong.

Hi Peter, thanks for the reply.
I have the recording mode set at AVCHD Lite, I also tried motion JPEG but when I try to get the video footage from the card it now appears as an unreadable file.

Previously I used Picaso to get the videos and photos from the camera and it was working perfectly.

I can watch the videos on the camera, I can watch the videos using VLC video player which I downloaded last nite.
The problem is that Sony vega does not recognise the file either so I cannot edit the footage or add music etc.

This is a video I took at Lithuania championchips and I had no problems.
I wonder what I have done wrong or what has changed in my camera.

I dont thing its your camera...more likely its the software :?: Does sony vegas give you an Error Message when you are trying to open/add video the file???could you post a "Print Screen" of it?
Did you instal any software meanwhile??

Hi Peter, the file will load into Sony Vega but it has only sound and no motion picture.

I only have had one download and that was adobe flash player 10 activeX

This is the file I open

PRIVATE_

AVCHD_

AVCHDTH-

THUMB.TDT this file shows as unreadable !

The error reads;

error 2048. Couldn't open the file THUMB.TD because it is not a file that quicktime understands

As you have gathered I know nothing about computors, so your kind help is really appreciated.

hi Richard
Well ist quite strange, I still dont thing its your camera nor SD card. But, there ist always a BUT (damn computers :!: ) It would be much easier to get it working hands on...

...If You are using a file manager of any kind ( such as total comander) you could try change the name (the suffix xxx.TD ) see if the file got corrupted and the name of the file is THUMB.TD instead of .TDT (or .MO instead .MOV) it will show up in pc as unreadable and Quicktime wont know how to handle it.

...If you copied the file onto your hard drive it coul get corrupted! You migt have some registry issues... :?:
>>do you still have the instalation file for Sony Vegas?? If yes I would uninstall the program first, then get some registry optimiser (they are usualy freeware) - install and run - and than reinstall the Sony Vega Software. This might fix the issue...but it might not!!!... its only my sugestion. :?:
And one more thing that I can think of is the Quick Time codec - try to reinstall this...

But If your original file is corupted than you will have to get a special repair software..

See if any of this helps! fingers srossed!
If not Get a big hammer....that usualy solves everything

Hi Peter the hammer is now looking very attractive !
I have reinstalled everything and still no success.
The original downloaded videos were.mov files !
Now this has changed !
I goggled the problem but again no success.
I have the kids over tomorrow for the weekend and if the sun keeps shinning then I might light the BBQ and burn the bloody camera and computor !
Thanks Peter for your help and advice.

Richard,
what program are you using to get the video from the camera?
Or ur using just copy paste from the card?
If you have a card reader on your computer than use it...or just conect yourcamera and...
Try to go to My Computer -- find an icon presenting your  removable disc(or camera) and right click on it -- click Explore -- You should have  folders 3 (think so) DCIM, MISC, PRIVATE -- open DCIM folder, thats where your stuff is stored. go to view and change it to  thumbnails... find a video file (hoover the moyse over the thumbnail it will say Quick Time Video File) and click right on it-- click Copy -- go to home screen Desktop (minimize everything) on desktop right click and press Paste. See what format it copies the file. and try to play it in QUICK PLAYER! Not in WinMediaPlayer as you might not have a plug in for it.

Try this, we see what it does...
Peter

Hey Peter :D

You have a very impressive knowledge!!!  ( I told you all we’d have to keep an eye on this guy. Not only can he fly a mean glider, he can also fix video cameras! From 500 Km away  )

Just changing the subject slightly, with the Dungannon slope-in clashing with the Cork fly-in,….Richard, what wind direction works for Slieve Gallion? :?:

Yes Peter, it’s on the same two days as the Dungannon one…..

Quote from this forum, MACI Events > CMAC 2011 annual Glide In

“It is our intention to run the CMAC Glide in over two days subject to interest, to encourage the people who have yet to venture this far South. The plan would be to have a flat field event on the Saturday, bungees, winching and aerotowing (Piper PA18 SuperCub with 3W 80 engine). BBQ on site. And to venture to the slopes on the Sunday. If interested could you please reply here so we can gauge the interest and finalise the plans please.
It will be the weekend before Easter that is the 16th and the 17th of April, All welcome.
Proof of insurance will be required for the Saturday on the Club site in Brinny, Co. Cork(just outside Bandon).
Regards
Ralph”

So perhaps you’ll be going down there for a ‘fun weekend with Kate!’ yes?

hmmm... :?:  Im tempted Keith...Cork is closer and I would love to try some aerotowing (with my cularis), but I could not participate on the sat. flying because I dont have the MACI insurance to fly on a club site.  :(

..Btw. Do I nead the insurance for slope gliding?...thats why I was a bit shy, on the Big L. . .I didnt know if I can fly without it.
How can I get the Insurance Keith and how much it is?
