Blanik L 213 A.
1:5 scale model of the full size glider made in 1991 by the Czech firm INTECO.
This is the all molded version from Valenta Models http://www.valentamodel.cz/index-aj.htm.
Photos from a cloudy day on Mt Leinster.

Looks really good,flys really really good.
Need to finish the trim(based on pics of full size) and add cockpit and pilot.One of these days!

Favorite glider i own by far.Really gets goin with a good blow on the slope. Hours of fun :D  :D  :D

Some good bits in that video.Not a great flight on that day though.Was still getting it set up then.

Not to bad considering the day !
Very very windy ! But that show that the glider can almost fly in any conditions !  :D

For more videoing, Anytime !! :lol:

That's all for now, I have a servo to put in my Grunau now !   8)

cool pics.
looking forward to getting home so i can drag you back up Mt Leinster.
need to do some exploring aswell.i know there are a lot more places to fly around there.would be so good to have all directions covered.

i love the new avatar Fred it's feckin' brillant.it's perfect for you  :D

I can resist... Yes, I can !.. Ok, may be not...  :D

But all wind direction covered will be really cool if we want to organize a meeting or something like that... The Cork Glide-in is still (as far as I know) the only glider oriented meeting in Ireland !.. I'd love something like Retroplane over here... Dream.... :roll:

Hi Joe

I've got really bad news for you ....... the postman just abandoned a Blanik on my from door. Your L213 has got a twin in Cork !  :D

Sorry ye missed the glide-in last weekend. I didn't do much flying since my transmitter is giving trouble. I've checked all sorts of potential faults but after eight years it's time to buy a new one. I won't have it for the MACI glide-in on Sunday but I should see you all on the 17th on Mt Leinster.

Chris had photos from Kinsale which I think he will add to the blog that he has started. Kevin Barry flew his entire fleet and I took some lovely flying shots with the coast in the background.

Talk to ye soon no doubt .....

Hiya Kevin welcome to the board.Thats not bad news to me at all  :D
What colour did you get? Yellow,White,Silver?
I know you'll be happy with it.It's a brilliant glider.It looks good and it flys great.Defiantly the best money i've ever spent on a glider/plane.
Look forward to flying them together.i'll have mine at the MACI glide-in.if i can make it that is!

I just ordered a white 1:5 L213A w/flaps. It should arrive by the 8th of October.

Do you still have videos of your flights on line?

What servos did you use?

Hey Skypilot.
Welcome to the forum.
For servos I just used what I had:
GWS Micro 2BB Metal Gear for the ailerons. These are cheap, strong and they work great. We have used them a lot with no problems.
For the brakes I used Hitec 125s
HS-85 metal gear for the elevator
Standard for the rudder.

I'd like flaps on mine, would be very handy. Does the flap version have brakes?

There is one video here http://www.gliderireland.net/Resources.htm it's not a great flight. Was still getting used to it then. Might be more video soon. Fred shot some lately. He'll probably edit it together one of these days.

You will love this glider sky-pilot. It's a total winner!!

Hi Joe,

Yes, the flapped model has the hinged air brakes. I am told it had to be special ordered and the guy who originally purchased it didn't go thru with the sale. So........I got lucky as it was in stock at Soaring USA.

I bought the flapped model to assist with thermally and landing. At least that's the plan.

Two guys I know added geared motors for self launch and I'll be doing the same using a Neu 1509/2.5/2700 w/6.7:1, 16X13 folding prop and 5s 3700 batteries. We don't have the slopes in my area so I'll be flying from a turf farm most of the time.

I'd been thinking about getting this model since I first saw two if them at the 2006 NEAT fair. Once I receive it I'll decide if a red, white and blue sunburst wing will look o.k. on it.

Sounds like you got a great version of the L213. All options. Lots to play will. Shame you don't have any slopes close to you. With a good wind on the slope. This thing is a lot of fun and nicely aerobatic as a scale glider.

I pretty lucky with slope sites.
Small slope site about 5 minutes away( don't get the wind for that often)

Hi Joe,

I wish I had flying fields that close. I have a school football field up the street but nothing I can fly one of these that close.

I received my L-213a the other day. It's advertized to weigh 74oz all up and mine out of the box it's 88 oz. Each wing weighs 23 oz. It work's out to be about 25% more than advertized :cry:

All of the wipers bind and stick badly, the canopy frame paint doesn't match the fuselage and it's edges are all chipped, one of the wingskins has a small crease in it next to one of the flaps and the seams have scratches and a few pin holes thru the gel coat. It's also missing two covers for the flap servos.

Does your model have any of these flaws? Would it be possible to post photos of your rudder install and maybe a closeup of your canopy frame and one of the seam between the canopy and vertical fin?

Oh, There wasn't any hardware to mount the rudder or instructions. Shoulod I install the rudder like they do on Composite Arf type planes with a rod down thru the rudder and laminate installed in the fin?

If your aircraft doesn't have these flaws I think I will return this one and get one from Europe.

The company I purchased mine from doesn't seem to think there is anything abnormal with the one I received and said that I shopuld not expect a flawless model for this price.

I would like to submit photos to my CC company of another white model that isn't buggered so they know what I'm talking about. The guy wants me to pay all shipping to return this one and I don't think I should have to pay over $100.00 to return a defective model.
