Are they from kits (like the windrider stuff) or home made?  :?:
Education is important, but flying RC planes and gliders is importanter!

I am Gavin by the way :-)

The 737 is a wind rider I have spent 1.5 years working on the ascetics, all stickers / paint finish is designed to be scale. Maiden planned in Droheda flying club within the next couple of weeks, video to follow :-)

Features:
Steering / Retractable landing gear
Spring Loaded landing gear
Scale lights added
Wing Flex

The A330 is a set thrust Composite model.

Features:
Steering / Retractable landing gear  
Brakes for shorted fields
Spring Loaded & scale landing gear
Scale lights
Flag system on wings

Both aircraft have a wingspan of over 2Meters

Anyway, they do look very good! And unusual to see airliners too, that is good for a change  :clap:  :clap:  :D

Do you have a link for the thrust composite ones?

I knew a company that was doing Airliners, the owner was an airliner's pilot, and if I remember, was selling plans, and front of fuselage + tails in FG  :?:

Hi Gavin

The two airliners look fantastic. The 737 from windrider is a good flying model, and you have done a great job on the Ryan Air scheme. I have build the 787 Dreamliner as a PSS model and it is a great model to fly, I also have the 380 in the workshop which I will complete later this year. I have seen the thrust composite range of models, and they are impressive, however a little too expensive for my pocket. Look forward to seeing both models in flight, so please post any vids when you complete the test flights.

Thank you for your kind words, it is quite coincidental, as I have a folder saved on my PC over the last 2 years with pictures I have collected that have inspired me and fuel my love of RC airliners, and this happens to be one of them:

Your plane is absolutely amazing, how did you finish yours?

For my Ryanair I covered it in PolyC, its now pretty solid, in fact as hard as a rock as I went a little overboard in the covering!

Its good to see somebody else with an Airliner in Ireland, I guess I was that busy looking at the plane in your picture that I totally missed the distinctive Irish countryside in the background! Where are you based?

Also I assume your A380 will be powered? Looking forward to seeing it!

Thanks Fred for the video!

Gavin, I finished the fuselage in glass cloth and epoxy, than applied a few coats of paint. The wings and tail are covered in solar film, and the engine pods, again glass cloth and epoxy as they take alot of knocks when landing.
The engines  will take a 70mm fan unit, however, if you are using ducted fans, you need to strengthen the engine pods, because this is a very weak section and if one of the engines should fall off in flight or even move, the CofG will be effected big time, even on a PSS version with no fans.

Gavin I would love to see your 330 model, so let me know when you are going to fly the model as I live in Armagh and only an hours drive from Dublin.

You must be some pilot John to send that up with no power!

The good thing is we are actually right beside each other, I'm from Newry, is it Armagh city you are from?

I covered all of the Ryanair with thick tissue and polyc (Epoxy) Is yours actually fibreglass?

Im not sure where Dublin came from, but I mentioned Droheda earlier, as this is the only flying club with the runway I need that I can find, do you know any other spots around here?

Also, instead of just seeing the A330, how would you fancy being the test pilot on the maiden? 8)

I'm too scared.....and I have a lot to learn and need to put more hours in on my petrol trainer before risking the big bird!

One of the guys at Drogheda is going to maiden the Ryanair....Id love to get a video made similar to this with the two of them in action at once!

Hi Gavin

Thanks for the offer, but I think you should leave a great model like the 330 until you are ready to fly it yourself. If you can manage to fly the 737, then you should be able to fly the bigger airliner with practice, i.e use the 737 as a test plane, the windrider range of airliners, are smooth flying models.

I live 20mins from Newry, so we are neighbours, give me a call Gavin some time on 07745458755, and we can arrange a meeting.

As for local flying sites, there are none near you with a runway. I only know two sites with a tarmac runway, northdown club, and the Ulster club, the rest of the other clubs have grass runways, and you would need a tarmac runway for the 330 to obtain a safe flying speed for take off.
