PSS / converting to PSS
« on: July 02, 2023, 15:58:26 PM »
hi guys ,
maidened my Tony Nijhuis harvard on the slope yesterday at T.T. winds were 17 gusting 22mph

the story :
a few years ago i got the tony nihjhuis harvard kit it was a part kit and unfortunately was mostly made of light ply ,
flying it on the home patch on i.c. was VERY challenging , it had the same tendency to do what the fullsize did (try very hard to kill the pilot ) :-X
even though when i was bulding it i extended the wing by 6 inches hoping it would improve it , unfortunately no .
so it gave a while on the rack , and i became interested in P.S.S. ,
then an idea crept into my head (why not pss , so whipped out the engine , whipped out the retracts , made a battery box ahead of the firewall and bolted 2 pounds of lead to balance it , and made a foam spinner to break up the flat plate on the cowl .
chucked it off , oh my god !!!!!  suprised wasnt the word , flew really well , even though i did notice the wing dropping tendency was still there , and so she needed to fly with purpose all the time ,
i dont know what wing section is on it , but its a semi semetrical wing

the pic of the 2 small pss`ers are a p40 and a 50 inch hawker hurricane

jus another ider of potential pss gliders for ye , cheers

Hi drumstick .
Im based here in killaloe co clare
within spitting distance of tountinna .
its a good slope , road all the way to the top
Flyable slopes range from southerly all the way
round to northwesterly. I have to friends that
come up from clonmel every now n then.
west cork would b quite a trek for a days sloping.
we were talking bout meetin up agin in the next
few weeks (aerobatic n heli comps have us hunted away
from the club)  >:(
give me a bell if your interested

Radios / 2.4gig conv module for jr 9x warning
« on: February 22, 2017, 21:59:31 PM »
Hi guys
just want to share this with you
not sure if its a horror story as such
about 3 years ago got a 2.4gig spektrum
module for my jr 9x 35 meg radio as a cheapish
upgrade plus i love my 9x and didnt want to get rid
of it . There is synth module in the back of the radio
so it was literally plug n play. Trouble is when i was trying
to connect with the 2.4 r\x it was never instant (unlike
my mates genuine dedicated 2.4 radio)
But as time went on the time it took to connect got
longer and longer until i had to switch on the radio
and t/x a couple of times before she'd connect
unitl last sat . Was at the flying field . Flying around.
Just doin circuits , all of a sudden lost control
and the plane nose dived straight into the ground
fortunately it is fixable , and was  a well worn ugly
stick . I reckon the problem is to me os that taking
the module in and out between 35 and 2.5 put some
wear on the pin connexions until finally she didnt
make contact with the module . So i have been thinking
about getting another module but as they say once
bitten twice shy . So im going to have to get a
dedicated 2.4 radio . So long story short if you have
these modules , leave them in

Thermal / Flat field / libelle dlg
« on: May 17, 2014, 19:37:11 PM »
hi richard , i read with interest about your adventures in DLG 's
I have dipped my toe (so to speak) in it myself . I bought a libelle , almost ready to glide glider from hyperflight uk . Im running it on a four channel reciever . But between reading a bit more , and  looking at my launches , i now realise that a 5 or 6 channel is a must , (having to switch between spoilerons for launch , and a slight camber for thermalling) having done quite abit yourself , do you use different flight modes for flying ?
Any tips for launching/finding thermals would also be appreciated
Its probably one of those things you learn by doing ,trial and error

Combat / any combat flyin n the west ?
« on: October 08, 2011, 14:19:48 PM »
we dont use rules as such (as in the proper tournament)just one, no head-ons since its just the two of us , we just keep flying , knocking the crap out of eachother   and keeping score of how many knockdowns we have each when we finish flying  :D

Combat / any combat flyin n the west ?
« on: September 04, 2011, 19:02:37 PM »
hi folks , havent been here n a bit , showed a friend of mine the joys of slope flying  . Having just flown powered , he was very impressd , that was grand until the inevitable happend ( had a mid air) before we knew it were tryin to knock eachother out of the sky (harder than it looks) but very entertaining ! But we were equipped with the wrong planes for the job in question (both ended up with a little bit of damage ) but both repairable . The question is , we are both fans of warbirds , so where would a fella pick up an epp pss warbird or a reasonably priced combat wing ?
Thanks in advance

hey folks ,
just back from test flying my zagi............ woooohooooo
great fun , had to dial in a nice bit of expo on the ailerons and elevator but its grand. i had a buzzard and a hawk for company for a while (showing me how its REALLY done ) but they dissapeared (obviously unimpressed)
very stable when flown gently , but it has a tendancy to rock the wings if you get a bit rough on the turns........................ still though woooohoooo
heres a picture
