Fun trip to Torrey Pines. Conditions were bad, nobody but us Ultrabatic types could even fly! :)

Met up with my friend Justin Gafford who brought his scratchbuilt 1270mm, 340g Swiss Fish... check out the infinite knife edge :)

Hope you enjoy,

Steve

How many exponential ??

On low rates, about 40% expo
On high rates, all of it! 100% expo :)

For the first 1/4 - 1/3 of stick travel, I try to make the plane feel the same on both low rates and high rates.

I think Pierre Rondel did it with a Voltij, but he might be able to confirm.

If he did, he didn't mention it when replying to me about the vid. He did seem quite stoked though! ;)

Another cool thing that came from these trials, is the "Falling Knife Edge", where you put the glider on the KE, and fall vertically

Yep been doing those since 2006 with Le Fish! Fun stuff :)

Next up, railslides and general tomfoolery at Long Beach on the weekend. My background in skate/surf/snow is showing through I think! ;)

Suuuuper stoked!! Been wanting to pull this trick for a long time now, collaborated with Michael Richter of Dream-Flight and we've had success!! Finally something truly new on the slope, I'm so happy! :)

This is the ExCali, a California-style reinterpretation of Eric Poulain's classic Excalibur VTPR glider.

We are creating a series of prototypes in EPP and when we are satisfied, we intend to create a final version with a fiberglass fuselage and foamcore veneered wing.

This is the first prototype completed, built by my friend and close collaborator "Swiss" Peter Richner. It flies wonderfully although the wing flexes a bit much - that'll get fixed ;)

Specs:
2.5m
1100g
all EPP with CF reinforcement
All moving tail capable of Madslide-style 180* rotation

More information here: http://www.slopeaerobatics.com/2012/04/17/excali-vtpr-glider-project/

Thanks,

Steve

Slope Soaring / Hello from the U.S.

Hi Tracy - I believe I flew power once with your brother Arlen over in the Paradise Valley - have always enjoyed Montana and love flying on the Hogsback in the valley (great lift! but a bit of a hike!)

Anyways I'll be back up that way this summer and would love to come fly Table Top with you. Looks perfect for VTPR. And I promise I'm not an elitist, either ;)
