anybody have any ideas about making winglets :-X
-
Hey Andrew :)
Wood or fibre?
For my ash, cut off 2 “wings” in foam. Insert tubes etc for the joiners. Sheeting, then for the winglet itself, 3mm plywood core, + 4mm balsa sanded in a profile, clarkY ish.
Vinyl covered et voilà :)
Alternatively, top rippin, and maybe others, are selling pairs that you can then adapt to your wing.

Hey Fred
Im for making them out of wood, they are for an ASW 20
Just looking for ideas for the shape, size and angles
Thanks for helping

This is my first attempt at making the winglets I've used 2 pieces of 1/8 balsa with a piece of 1/16 ply in the middle for strength
I've the winglet leaning out by 10° but will check the angle when the wing is on the fuselage

Looking good Andrew!
If I may, I would do them a tad smaller. You can also angle them a bit, usually in the 10 degrees or so region on the outside.

I've made winglets for the ASW 20
They are added to the wing extensions which I have to join to the main wing my big concern is can the tips be too heavy and effect the glider in flight
