It's me again.
(Who?)
Very, very long story, that isn't over yet. But looks like I'm getting back into RC, and that means gliders. Of course.
I've got a quite nice un-made up glider, but.
First things first......
No radio.
So which one?
Been out of touch with the whole scene for quite some time. Or it feels like a long time anyway.
There's Jeti, JR, Futaba, FRsky, and all sorts.
2.4GHz of course, would like posibility of data feedback (altitude, wind speed, etc), and enough channels for all the controls. And a few more.
So please chaps, with all your great wisdom and worldly knowledge, what system do I go for?

Welcome back!
Same as John. Look at the FR-Sky stuff. Cheap and cheerful.
Works flawlessly for me for the past 5 years, and the new radios (Taranis Xx) are hard to beat in the cost/features ration department.
Saying that, you can also check in your club what they are using the most, as "local" help in setting up models etc is also very valuable (and less time consuming) if you see what I mean.

Yes I'm back.
Quite certain this time.
I had to give up flying models as my eyesight got way too bad.
Couldn't see the last one properly and crashed it into a silage pit.
(cough, cough).
Since then, because of driving licence requirements, I've had a cataract op in the right (worse) eye, and can't believe what I've been missing all these years.
It's now actually quite a bit better than 20/20 or 6/6 in metric.
I'm now full-time carer for my wife, and spending the summer (?) sitting on hilltops while I fly is something that she can do, and will enjoy. (Now she can't walk the footpaths).
Looked at the Taranis range and most impressed.
I haven't got a club, so will have to join yours!
Didn't mean to make that sound like I'm being forced into it

Don't know if this service would be of use to you. It's only recently been introduced by An Post. So if a UK company is offering free, (or low cost) postage to a UK address you can use this facility to get it posted to RoI for only €3.50.

Address Pal only operates for UK postage, (I think it's a storage depot in Slough, west London). So you can't use Address Pal for items purchased in other countries I'm afraid.

Keith doesn't like the taranis talking to me though!
Whatever you have learnt programming a radio before forget all of it as it's different kettle of fish, it's not difficult and there are so many pages on YouTube to help set it up.
Also I recommend T9 Hobbysport as any issues its just a call where as Hobbyking not so easy! (Not saying it's unreliable) plus it keeps a model shop running!!
