Title: The Condor has Landed - but what about the servos?

The Condor Magic EVO 4 has finally arrived.
And it looks good.
But I now need some servos.
Nothing much about them on the instruction sheet, but Googleing points to:

5 Micro
and
1 Standard.

No info on loadings etc.

What I already have is:
2 x Hitec HS-55
2 x Hitec HS-81
2 x Ripmax Micro SD200
and 1 x Corona DS-319MG

I'd prefer digital just for the response and accuracy/repeatability, but cost is naturally a significant consideration.

So... What do you all reckon?

Anyone put one of these together before?
Some comments have mentioned that putting the elevator and rudder servos in the tail makes it tail heavy?

Andrew, is the man to talk too. he has a Condor, and it is a great flying glider. Send him a message



I use MG servos in all my gliders hitec 82, 85, and a few smaller servos that are no longer available, no need for big expensive digi servos, only used them when I flew turbines at 120 euro a servo,

Ron Best advice, 'keep your set up simple' and invest in a good battery, it saves time and money.

Having just looked at the price of digital servos... keep it simple it shall be.

In theory I've got enough servos already, but these HS-55s look very small.

Yes, I could do with some new batteries.

Ron the HS-55 servos are to small, I have a couple in the servo box, also I think they have plastic gears, better to go with metal gears.

So you’ve got yourself a Condor hu?  :D (I’m sure I used to smoke ‘Condor’ in my pipe many years ago, :shock:  or was it condom? :?  Oh no, they’re rather different aren’t they! :oops: )

Anyway, nice looking plane. I assume yours is the powered version?
As for servo choice………I always use metal geared servos for the flaps at the very least. If you’re coming into land using Crow braking the flaps will be deployed and unless you’re very quick at removing the crow just before the plane touches down, there is always the possibility the flaps will snag on something as the plane lands which can jar the servos. Ask me how I know!

If yours is the powered version, presumably you’ll be using a BEC to operate the radio and servos?

Yes metal gears are a must I think.

No it's a non-powered version. No heavy motors and batteries.
Real wind power stuff.
But it's about time I had some new RX/servo batteries.

Off to the Old Head of Kinsale today to help launch a 26ft wingspan 'Musger' glider on it's maiden flight.
I'll get some pics if I can.

Ron you've got yourself a cracking model I think it's the best model from the fly fly range
I have a standard size servo for the rudder and a ripmax SD 200 for elevator ailerons and flaps
You'll really enjoy it    :D
I put the elevator servo just below the tail rather than a snake running up the inside of the fuselage
The only down side to the model was the covering it started letting go on the flaps and ailerons
I've flown it off the slope and aero-towed it and it's just brilliant  :D

On cheapo servos, some of my favorites are the MG14 and MG16 from HobbyKing.
Best servos for the money in this size  :D

Not keen on HobbyKing, but provided they deliver from UK/Europe I'll look at the servos.
Last time I bought, apparently from the UK store, it came from HK and I had to pay tax on it.

Hmm, strange.
When I order from the UK, NL or DE, that never came from the Far east.
Unless maybe you mix stuff from different warehouses that is sent by default from China?  :?:

Ron i'm not sure how to load a video from youtube but if you on ot it and put in Tel4444 and look for glider mix you'll see me flying the condor magic off the beach at Downhill, it starts about 2 minutes into the video
