Title: Dublin slope sites
Post by: EI1638 on July 23, 2012, 23:29:56 PM
Where and when, do most people go glider guiding in the Dublin area?

It's been a while since I guided gliders at the Featherbeds, the Bowl, Kilmashogue or on Bray head. Back then I never flew around Glencree although I've seen it mentioned since, so who, when and where?

Hi Chris,
You will usually find a few of us flying on Sat afternoons approx 2.30 on the slope approx 2K beyond Kilakee carpark. This slope is suitable for flying in SW to NW winds. The Glencree slope is suitable for S or SE winds and there is also a smaller slope for when the wind blows from the North. What are you flying?
John.

Hi Chris,

as John said, we mainly fly in Kilakee.

Seems that I might not be there on Saturday, but fingers crossed for good flying conditions!  :D

Hi guys,

Thanks for that.  I'm not going to be around for the next few weekends but at least I now know when and where to go.

At the moment the only airworthy gliders I have are an ST Models Fox, which has been outed on Mt Leinster once or twice, and an MPX Merlin, which mostly sees action at my mother inlaws.

There is a Graupner Rogallo waiting in the wings for some rework - fuselage needs a few patches and some servos need replacement, the model in front of it in the queue needs to be finished (painted and wing covered) before I start work on that though.

Aaaahhh, that's Chris!
Sorry, my brain only kicked in!

I'm not sure if you have my number, but you can give me a call / text when you plan going to fly. I can also show you the way up there  :D

yes, thats me.

There was also the Ripmax Stargazer that was tree'd in 2011. Unfortunately the re-arrival on terra firma made repairs to that a bit pointless, though it looked perfectly healthy on top of the tree.

Oh well.
