that's great alan, looking forward to meeting you. maybe the k8 will fly this time. mmmmm maybe the k's 8, 13,and 18??? now there's a thought!

pity you won't be down bill. nothing planned just now for later but who knows, a fine sept day might yet be organised for a bit of 'gravitational inversion'

Ger, I’ve been looking at the forecasts,…………..it doesn’t look too good.
Alas, the consensus seems to be light winds/showers. (I don’t mind the showers but I’m not a great fan of light winds. :( )

I’ll keep an eye on the forecasts and if there seems any likelyhood of a decent ‘blow’ on either day I’ll see you there. :D

Hey Keith,
Ger hides the real weather from the met office as to have the slopes to himself. You are guaranteed a great day. Hope to see everyone on Sat

Yes Ger, very important to get a supply of Dave's buns for tempting us up the hill :D

pity ye can't make it those lads but thanks for the good wishes. keith, i believe there's no such thing as bad flying weather....just 'challenging'!
ralph, i'm afeered no buns this time, mc caffery on hol's. i'll see what i can rustle up to satisfy those southern sweet tooths.

we were up tountinna tonight preraring the hills. all the heather has been freshly washed with lovely soft rain, all the thermal clouds have been fluffed up and are ready to draw our models upwards. even the wind has been tweeked to blow onto the best slopes for the whole day. all we need now are glider guiders to fill in the perfect picture.

looking forward to a great day out. see ye on sat bright and early (-ish).

Hiya Gerry. Sounds like everything is set. If you have half as good a day as last year it'll still be a good day out. I'm not goin to make it this year unfortunately. I'll be doin a gig in Cork. Very best of luck. Enjoy.

Er, sorry Ralph. I can see Big L. from where I live, but Tountinna is well and truly below my horizon.
Sorry about that!

Hope you all have a good day, I’d guess you’ll be doing a combination of thermal and dynamic flying as I see it the wind speeds are forecast as low.

Good luck, and remember to post plenty of picies/video!

what a great day's flying! warm sunshine, lots of thermal activity and not a drop of rain all day. like i said earlier, flying in light winds brings its own challenges and rewards. a most enjoyable day, good company, good banter and plenty of good cheer.

thanks to everyone who took part, hope ye enjoyed it as much as i did. looking forward to next year's event already.
i'll get some photos up as soon as i can.

Hi John. Unfortunately my landings were a bit hit and miss. There was so little lift some times that there was not enough height to make a proper approach to land so you had to land where ever you could. I sheared two bolts, but that's all. No other damage apart from that.

Any landing which you can walk away from, is a good landing

forgot to say we were up on tountinna again last night on the very same slope in very good lift and the difference was amazing. flying was so easy when you knew all you had to do was face the model into the wind and go skyward again. a real buzz

Just a quick note to say that this is one busy site. 9 cars parked up a bunch of Limerick lads a few from Tipp and a solitary Cork man for his sins.  Lift was steady Alpina stayed up all right and my Fling was in its element. A great night had by all.

Am I right in saying anyone welcome any Wed evening (WP :D )

It's OK I've found out how to get there...

1. Call Dave or Gerry if completely lost. Dave 086 8218746 Ger 086 3497493.

2. From the Main N7 Limerick to Dublin turn at the village of Bird hill. If travelling from the dublin direction you need to turn right at the main roundabout outside Birdhill. Signposted for Ballina/Kilalloo. If Travelling from the Limerick Direction you need to drive through Birdhill to the dublin side. Then turn left at the main roundabout for Ballina.

3. In Ballina you will have plenty space to park up and meet.

4. Head North through the village until you meet a tiny roundabout outside the Grocery store. Continue straight ahead at this roundabout.

5. You will then take the first right turn. You will know you are on the right path at this stage as the road takes a sudden uphill direction.

6. So the basic rule is KEEP RIGHT from now on. the next right turn is just opposite a small house on your left. He always has a boat parked there. There is a sign saying Graves of the Leinstermen straight ahead. Just turn right.

7. The road takes a downhill direction now to a very small bridge. Continue straight on.

8. Continue after the small bridge for about a mile or so. You will be doing some pretty decent uphill climbing now. The Next right turn is almost at the top. By now it will be very obvious that you need to turn right to get to the top of the hill. This turn is a very sharp and steep. It is almost a U turn in a 35degree uphill direction. 1st gear job!

9. Drive straight to the top. Car park at the top beside the transmission tower.

10. If lost refer to step 1. 8)

.
