Jo & I went up to Big L today. The weather was supposed to have been 20+Km/h winds and clear skies, turned out to be neither.
The wind was very light to almost still and we spent hours waiting for the low cloud to clear, only to have more low cloud come in after a few minutes.
We managed to get a bit of flying in however.
First up Joe flew his Luna and I threw my Whisper into the air. The lift seemed reasonably constant for a while. Then, suddenly , it disappeared. Neither plane was high enough to make a proper landing on a flat area and had to make emergency landings part way down the slope.
This is what mine looked like when I found it. Obviously it had gone nose in leaving the nose cone still stuck in the ground!

The cloud came in immediately afterwards so we retreated to the car part for tea and to complain about the poor conditions.
An hour later the cloud partly cleared. Feeling exceptionally brave Joe assembled his new 3mtr ’beast’ and we ascended to the top of the north slope once again.
There was hardly any more lift than before, but this beauty just kept climbing.
Some times the lift would go and Joe got very close to stalling at some points!
But overall he managed to keep her in the air. Even making some aerobatics from time to time.
Unfortunately the screen on my camera kept misting up if I bought it too close to my face, and if I held it too far away I couldn’t see what it was taking, so I don’t have any picies of the close in rolls that it was doing.
We packed up around 1o/c with the intention of returning next week, in better conditions. I HOPE!
