Daisy Electric Glider - I need HELP with assembly
« on: October 31, 2006, 17:10:22 PM »
I have recently bought my first rc plane which is a DAISY electric glider. As a complete novice I know I will struggle with assembling this and I may need your advice/help (if you don't mind the stupid questions  ).

Q1. Has anyone got any pics of their assembly which may be of benefit to me?

So far, I have cut out & trial fitted the vertical fin. Next is fitting the prop and motor which is half complete.

Q2. How does the engine fit securely in place? Do I then attach the prop?

Thank You!!! :D

Hi Error

First of all, welcome to the forum ! And there are no stupid questions, just crazy answers !

For Q1 : I don't have any picture of the Daisy, but if you have any doubt, you can post pictures in the forum (or send them to me, and I'll do it for you), and then, we can see what to do / what's wrong.

For Q2, I guess the daisy is powered by a Speed 400 ? Is it direct drive or geared ?
If it's directe drive, in front of the motor, there will be 2 or 4 holes for the screws, and on the noze of the glider, you should have a plywood piece called firewall. The motor goes by the inside, and then it's screwed to the firewall. Just take care not to use very long bolts, as they can touch the rotay part inside the motor.
If the motor is geared, same thing, but I think the daisy is direct drive.

To attach the propeller to the shaft of the motor, you need an adapter, something like this :

But once again, the best way to help you is to tell us what you got, using pictures and so on.
But an even better way, if you leave near Dublin, Mt Leinster, is to meet us with your glider at the slope  :D

Fred, thanks for the info. I got a chance yesterday evening to pop into Green's HS, where i bought the plane and saw a daisy that was built. Seeing it finished helped.

The motor is direct drive (Race 400 Electro Motor 7,2V). I got some washers (2.5mm + 3mm) to use on the bolts (8.5mm) that go into motor and firewall so it does not touch the rotary part.

I hope to do this on the weekend so I will let you know how I get on and I will post pictures of the build as I go along.

Finally, I will try to get out to Mt. Leinster some Saturday.

I am nearly finished the assembly of my Electric Daisy(found some time). However I have two questions.

1. When I connect the battery the speed controller beeps every one second continiously. What causes this problem, how should i fix it.

2. When I turn on the 'Hitec Optic 6' the servos 'jump' they move position by about 45 degrees.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I would love to begin flying soon. Thanks

Hi there,
So, almost done ! :D

For the esc, what is the brand ?
If that keep beeping, that can be because your throttle is not at the minimum.
Put your stick down, then, plug the esc and see if that's bettre.
If not, that can be for a lot of reasons (battery low, motor not plugged properly, receiver etc etc...)

For the Optic, the servos move for 45degrees, but then, when you move the stick, the servos are moving ?
If yes, well, unscrew the control hron and put it in a more decent position (neutral).
If that not move, check :
Receiver is connected to a battery and on
Crystals (same frequency in TX and RX, and don't forget that the receiver must have a RX crystal (same for the transmitter..)
Everything is plugged correctly and so on...

Not easy without seeing the thing.. If you have a picture of your setup, that will help a bit more.
Otherwise, bring your gear / glider at the slope next week end (or elsewhere, my garage, if the weather is crap  :( ) and we can habve a proper look.

Fred,

The esc is ACCU TMM 1812, 18A, 6-12 cells, Mege Bec.
Trottle is at minimum.
Battery is charged.
...
Servos move a little after inital 45degree move when i switch on.
Crystals are the same.

I will unscrew the control horn and move it to a decent position as suggested. I will take a few pictures this evening and post them tomorrow. Thanks.

Hummmm
Try to reset your radio aswell. Somtimes, the rates and so on are at the minimum, and when you move the sticks for the servos they don't move much...
Put all the settings in your radio at 100% and see if that change something.
Oh yeah, try to invert the throtle on the radio as well... For you, you are in minimum throttle, but may be not for the esc. Invert the channel and see if that change the bipping.
I've checked the manual for the TMM, and a discontinued bip is an error..
Some radio rate, the default in the way the stick are moving is 150%, wich it can be too much for the esc. Reduce that to 100% or less.
Don't know if I'm clear enough here...  :?
Another thing, may be stupid, but switch your radio ON first, then the receiver / esc... See if the servos are moving 45* after that... (yep, that was the case on the old radio system   )

I'll post later if I have more ideas...

Fred,

I was away yesterday so did not get a chance to do anything. On saturday if you are flying i would like to pop up to the slope and let you have a look at the plane, if you get a chance, it would be appreciated. Meanwhile i will take on board your suggestions and let you know how i get on this evening.

Cool,
I'll certainly be at the slope on Saturday, or Sunday, weather permitting.
I'll let you know tomorrow, I'll check the Forecast.
Otherwise, we can meet in my home, 10 mins from the slope in Churchtown, and complete to setup your glider, ready for the first flight !  :D
