« on: February 11, 2009, 21:09:52 PM »
Hi All, Happy new year.

Been a good while since i read the forum but anyhow we got out on the slope at tounntine today. Myself and Ger buckley. Light lift and clear blue skies. Good flying with the lighter balsa models. Froze our proverbials off but well worth it. :)    It got our 2009 season off to a great start. Even if it took us untill Feb to get up there. Hope its a good year for slope soarin.

Good Man Dave!  It's good to know someone else has the courage to go flying in February, well done!

Sorry to hear that you "froze your provebials off." I always find it a good idea to wear cloths at this time of the year.  You should try it!

So what were the models you flew? and where are the pictures??? (We like to see lots of pictures on this forum)

Keith

Hi Kieth, Fred,

We were flying a Great Planes Spirit 100, A Reichard Champion, and a Dyna Flyte Bird of Time. I do not have any photos of last wed, But I dug out a few photos, from tounntine. My spirit is featured so I suppose we could pretend that it was last wed. I will remember to take some pics the next day. I need to run out onow and buy a digital camera Pronto!!

This is my GP Spirit 100 built from kit. Used flaps and aileron for crow brakes. Very nice model in a gentle but steady breeze.

The next pic is Ger and myself with a pair of S2G MDM-1 Fox's. 1:3.5 scale. Big gliders with a mean temperament. Will only fly in a small hurricane. And usually all other gliders need to get out of the way fairly lively....  :D

Here we are flying a Salto and a hotliner of some description. This was a visit from a guy who contacted me from Germany through my website. He stayed on top of tounntine in a camper van for 4 days. Loved the place!!

And a couple of pics of me in my 1:1 scale ASK7.....  Well ok it was a trip to Gowran Grange to the Dublin Gliding Club for a day out Aerotowing. Wonderfull!!

Next time up the hill I will get a few relevant shots of our escapades.

As for the freezing proverbials, I was under the impression that all slope soarers flew with their antenna's out in the breeze??

Very good photos Dave. Bravo

It looks like a good flying site. What's the landing area like?

I love the S2G's. "One day" I must get myself one, they look like fun. (Mind you, I keep telling the wife that one day I'll do the washing up. But it hasn't happened yet  )

As for flying with antenna's in the breeze; My Tx is on 2.4Ghz, so I've only got a very little one  (Deduce what you will from that statement)

Thanks for sharing your experiences with us.

Kieth,

The Landing areas on tounn tine are pretty good. A couple of hidden dips here and there and the odd water hazzard. But overall its good. Lots of soft heather everywhere so you never really get a hard landing. The only wind direction that is bad on this hill is easterly.

Joe,

Would love to fly it for ya, I had it with me at the Glide in on Mt leinster last year. Wind was too light for it. Better luck this year hopefully.

Cheers
