Graupner Piper PA18 - Rubber band powered

I pretty much like everything that fly, RC, non RC etc etc...

When I was 9, I had for my birthsday a graupner kit of that exact same model... When I saw it on sale on a website, I was a man in a mission !
I must have it ! And I did...

Here is the box.. Modern one, the original was not like that... It seems this is a 1996 re-edition of this kit...



The box content... Yummmiii!!  



And here we go.. I'm not going into much details, photos will be enough... Everything is glued with CA (21st century stuff!)... Remember that think took months to be alive...
But, to my surprise, I was expecting a much easier build, but no, lots of parts all over the place.. Very well engeneered !  :clap:













And here is where I stopped...REally light and strong so far at this stage...
Can't wait to fly it with the daughter in Marlay Park !

Why not a second one with RC.. I have all the gears here...
But that one will be 100% Free Flight.
I have a huge amount of respect for the modelers that do FF  :clap:  Compared to us, RC, we have life much more easier. FF guys must build things with perfection as they can't control the thing once launch. And some of the flights they are doing are simply amazing ! !

Back to the subject now...

I finished the fuselage back sheeting, and glued the Tail






And the side windows...



Bending of the cooling area... Broken of course at my first shot !
I've then pour CA everywhere in the front on the balsa. Now bend without breaking...





And finally, with the gear pants glued on the piano wire...

Then, the wings.. Non event here, as some supports are glued first, and everything fit perfectly !  :clap:



And that's pretty much it !

Now, the front canopy need to have a better fit and to be glued in place.
Also next to be done, is a general sanding of the Piper before finishing...
Still don't know what to do here, painted white like the box, or leave it like that, but with a few layers of varnish... So far, I think I'll go for the varnish to keep the wood construction visible...
