Aermacchi PSS project
« on: September 03, 2008, 15:35:48 PM »
Hiya all just thought I'd share a project I have been working on and hope to get finished soon.
Aermacchi MB339 PSS. Span 1.625metre(64 inch)
Fiberglass fuse. Foam veneered wings.
I did the fuse layup a couple of months ago and finally got round to cutting the wings last night. Will take a bit of testing with the fuse layup to get the right compromise between weigh and strength and also the wing profile to see what is going to work best. Will finish this off over the next month or two whenever I'm at home and will keep you posted of my progress.

Ah OK then you can have one,  even if you don't make a CNC foam cutting machine. Am only trying to motivate you. You could even have this one once it flies a few times. Will make a second test model once this is done for sure.
Yeah! think it looks really good too. Looking forward to getting it in the air!  :D

Yeah, good sound track, (Alice Cooper if I remember right) shame about the video. Sack the camera man!
Try not to run out of airspeed, altitude and ideas....... all at the same time.

Hiya Alan. I have a mold for the fuse.

So here's a bit more info.

Span 1.5 metres /59 inches
Weight 1.8 Kg / 63 ounces
Wing loading 15 oz/sq.ft

So that first flight was in medium lift at the smallish coastal site down the road from me. Bit nervous but didn't need to be in the end.

Very stable flyer. Lots of dihedral to help here. No problem flying in this lift so I think it will go OK in less too. Got a good turn of pace and is very happy in tight turns. Bank and crank is no problem! No stalling out of turns or nasty behavior. Takes a good bit to stall it and after holding it at a high angle of attack in eventually tip stalled. Need to check the balance etc as I might be able to improve this.
Rolls are a scale like. I'm sure they can be speeded up with a few adjustment.
Overall it flies great. Me very happy. :D  :D

Great video and great music!
That seem like pure fun.
Now it just need a paint job to match.

That spot also seems great to fly.

Well if you use the camouflage colour schemes you might find it hard to find when you land  :P  :P . But I think they all look good.
