The Autumn Glide-In 2015
« on: September 20, 2015, 19:21:50 PM »
Okay, Okay, Okay,.......so who's up for next weekend then? Taking a mean average of the present weather forecasts, Saturday looks as though we'll be on the south, or possibly the west slope with 10 – 15Kph winds, broken cloud/sun and about 10 – 12 degrees C of temp.
Sunday looks almost certain to be the south slope with winds up to around 25 – 30 kph and similar temperatures but slightly more overcast.

So, nothing too strong in terms of wind, not too cold, and so far no rain forecast for either day. 8)
A nice autumn weekend I'd say.

The only question remains, who's coming?  :?: So come on lads, “Sound Off” as our cousins across the Atlantic would say.

I don't wish to know that, Bill  . The question I'm asking is will you be down for the glide-in?

Arrrr, Gerry “knobbly knees” Buckley!! It's been too long since we've seen eachother. You must demonstrate your famous Vertical Figure of Eight manoeuvre for me again. :D

Well here, a few Km south of the Big L, there is brilliant sunshine but I can't post a picture of the mountain because it's covered in mist .  Not unusual at this time of day in the autumn.

Wind is light and variable in direction but broadly from the south. Temp is 8 degrees C.

Once that mist burns off it'll be a nice day I recon.

I'll be up there between 12 & 1pm.....See you then.

Oh dear Alan,.....with gentle breezes forecast I'd have thought conditions would have been 'right up your street'. You could have floated around looking for the thermals. (There's bound to be some today if the sun stays out.)

Never mind, see you next year.

What a glorious day! The sun shone, the wind was gentle, (perhaps a little too gentle for some) and to everyones approval the temperature was warm.

I saw lots of pilots with cameras so I won't bother posting many of mine, just a few to give a flavour of the days event.

First up we have Dillon (hope I've spelt that right.) Dillon was up on the slopes of the Big L today for the first time. He also flew for the first time ever and I have to say he put in a pretty good show  for a first timer, easily handling the 2 meter wing span model you see him holding here. And no, he didn't 'cheat' by using the prop. He flew it in true glider style as you see it in the picture, with the propeller secured back against the fuselage.
Well done that lad. :D

Now I've always believed that people involved in any sport or hobby can generally be divided into one of two categories. Those who do it,.......and those who talk about it!
Which category do you thing the people in the following pictures fall into?

.
.

Eventually Roisin got bored with all the talk of wingspans, lift / drag ratios and aileron differentials and decided to entertain us by doing a striptease on the picnic table. (She's very brazen.)

It was certainly a good day.
