High pressure point east of us meant that me and couple of mates got a chance to visit a slope we use in SA wind but in a dry weather for a change. More people had gotten the idea of using the good weather and when we arrived a rather large group of people was already there with a paraglider. But after the first jump and the subsequent express elevator ride to the ground below they left for greener pastures. As we were in no hurry we decided to stick around as the forecast had promised a pickup in the windspeed. Wouldn't you know it, after not too long we were rewarded with some more wind.

So of course we threw our models into the wind and started the fun time. My wing only lasted about two mintues before a reciever failure brought it down close to car with no damge, sturdy little thing.

Dramatic scenery as always Selleri, and a nice little video at the end. Those Paragliders get everywhere don’t they. Can be a bit of a nuisance sometimes, but…. ‘Live and let Live’ I suppose.


I was very interested to hear of your experience with an ‘orange’ rx. You’re the second flyer I’ve heard of experiencing problems with them in flight. Been told they’re not very sensitive, (don’t have much range). I have one in my workshop,….. never used it,…….don’t think I’ll bother now.

I've got no trouble using them and I've logged many hours on them BUT I don't use them in anything above small(ish) foamies. The one I was originaly going to use for the wing couldn't move one channel without interfering with the other.

About the range, I've flown a Stinger edf out to about 400-500 meters with an Orange rx, no problem. But as I said before personaly I wouldn't use it in something expensive.

Keith i use these i have them in thermal models and slope models and i haven't had any bother

That's the same one I had in the wing Andrew... and I've got another that will replace it.   :wink:

Hmmmmm :?: ,…..thanks for your comments lads. I’m still not sure if I have the courage to use that rx.
Maybe I’ll just put it back in the workshop somewhere. Or I  might use it with a little powered 3D foamy I’ve got that stays close in.

Slightly hijacking your topic Selleri I’m afraid, but on the subject of “Orange” radio gear here is a report from my old Kiwi friend.

I like this guy, although he tends to talk rather quickly he has what I consider the two most important ingredients for publishing reports on technical matters. Passion and being the master of his subject.  These, coupled with a degree of eccentricity, make me respect his findings and enjoy reading (watching) his reports.

Here he is reporting on Orange DSM2 rx’s.

Maybe I wont get rid of my orange rx after all. :wink:

like Selleri I tend to only use them in light slow models. Anything big &/or fast gets pukka Spektrum. Never had a problem up till now ( touch wood) :?:  :?:

Thanks Fred, no issues so far, we try to miss the rocks on landing, mostly sucessfully.  ;-)
