1.20 mtrs Fouga Magister PSS

While we are talking about PSS, here is a Jet, for a change !
And an original one, with the good old French Fouga Magister !  

The kit is in PHD (High Density polysthyrene), so more fragile than EPP, but much lighter... Good for low wind conditions.

Combat ? hmmmm Why not !    

Here are some really quick photos !

From the first photo to the last one, around 3 hours of work.
15 mins sanding
30 mins assembly (I have used epoxy 5mins everywhere!)
2.15 hrs decorating !  :!:  :!:

So, here we go :









The wingtips tanks are made of round insulating foam, sanded and covered in blue tape... Must find another solution, don't look that great, but I've only spent 2 minutes on them...

I hope to have it finished for this week end National...

Left to do is the V tail, and put the 2 servos for the ailerons (you can see the white spots on top of the wings at the root where they are going)
Everything else is hidden under the canopy.

That looks fantastic. . . but any Fouga Magister I ever saw was silver with dayglo orange tip-tanks :lol:  :lol:  :lol:

Only joking!  Should look fantastic in the air.  I always liked the very long Vee tail planes and very low slung undercarriage on the Fouga.

I won't see it this weekend but hopefully soon :clap:

For the scheme, I know well the Irish one.. This is the scheme used by the Flying school based in Cognac. Used to see the Fouga flying all day from my Grd mother's house !    

I have to admit that we had a bit of a laugh when we've learned that a country will buy some of the Fouga, because they where already out-dated for a school, imagine for a country's air force  :-({|=

Left to do tonight :

2 ailerons servos to glue
Connect the elevators

And that's it !
Looks good, kind of like this scheme even if I'm not really happy with the covering  :!:  Did a really bad job here !  :oops:

So far, it looks like I will need to put some weight on the tail ! Really light machine !

This come from a "kit".

Everything is cut, just have to sand the parts in shape, then glue everything together  
So far, around 4 hrs of work to get to this state.

I like it... well done :clap:

I know it is no use for this weekend, but just an idea for the tip tanks.  I have some (note use of plural  :oops:  ) Raptor helicopter tail booms that are... let us say... not really useable as tail booms.  I only seem to get one crash from a boom     These are about 20mm in diameter I guess and are super light.  They are a little heavier than a one-piece drink can, but not much!  You could fit a balsa plug to each end and sand to shape.  They would be very light and I am sure you could fit them with a couple of locating dowels and some velcro so that they would separate if you landed in anything nasty :?:

You are welcome to try this out if the diameter is even close?  Let me know, I use them to cast lead-shot/epoxy as ballast plugs (There is an other simple idea for you)   :wink:

Thanks for the offer, but the wingtanks need to be bigger than 20mm, but that will do nice missiles !        I'll check the diameter of my current ones, but I think that is close to 50mm  :?:

The Fouga made its maiden voyage last week end at the National !
Nothing to say really, fly great ! Just a bit of up at the elevator and that's it !
Flew with only one aileron without any problems (one of the servo decide to die, or commit suicide before the first fright !  :lol:  )
A bit too light for the day's conditions, so I guess the EPP version will even fly better !
Ralph is now "Mode 1 certified"  :lol:    with the Fouga !

Did the first flights without the wingtanks. Added them after (looks much better !) and no differences in the controls ! Even with only 1 ailerons !    :oops:

Hey... no worries about the delayed reply.  You were off enjoying the fly-in... proper order :clap:  

Congratulations on the Fouga.  It looks great and seems to fly well too all things considered.  I would be interrested in a nice silver one with orange tip tanks but will have to put it on the reserve wish list for the moment.  Too many things already on the primary list :oops:

Yeah, pretty happy with that one !
I've planned to remove the gears after the first flight (prototype for the shop) but after the week end, I'll keep it in flying order !
35mhz on board, any time to try it !
