Hi all , well the first day of our get together is over !
Yesterdays flying was very very rewarding.
We were on a different slope than usual and although winds were gusting at times to over 15MPH it was a challenge to fly.
I had 6 pilots turn up yesterday which was good considering that there was other events on this weekend , plus the fact that 2mph winds were forecast.
Now work this one out !
I BBQed 32 sausages !
6 pilots !
How many hot dogs can any man eat !
There was 2 gallion of coffee drank as well !
We were on the slope at 10am and left it at 6pm.
I really enjoyed my day and a big thanks to everyone for coming to Slieve Gallion.

So, Richard, you BBQ’ed 32 sausages & 6 pilots :shock: ………..bit extreme isn’t it?

I admire you all for being able to fly in those conditions. :clap:  I assume there must have been thermal activity to maintain 8 hours of flying, yes?
So how many pilots “landed out” and had to take “the long walk”? :oops:

Trust you find a little more wind today. Good Luck lads.

keith we had another great day today  :D
the lift today was coming and going i flew my electric model and when the lift died the thermals where great even john with his thermal model had a good few flights  :D

i'm sure richard will post a few photo's later

the sausages where great i reckon in the last two days i've eaten a packet on my own  :lol:  :lol:

roll on the next big slope event   \:D/

Hi all again today it was seriously though flying.
12 pilots flew and it was great to see the visitors.
I would say I walked the most down the slope today !!!!!!!!!!!!
Keith my wee legs are cream crackered    :D
I really have to thank all you die hard slopers for turning up over the weekend and making the event special
I have decided next year and from then on its going to be the called the HOT DOG SLOPE BASH  :lol:

Well, you certainly seem to have had a very good turn out. I notice that there seems to be a pattern emerging at Glide-Ins.  Often, the calmer the weather, the more pilots turn out. :D  
I also observe a regional variation.
In the north, glider pilots’ staple diet are sausages.
Where as in the west, it seems to be Bunz.
They say “You learn something new every day.” All I can say is, “There’s no accounting for taste.” :roll:

Apart from dietary preferences you guys obviously had a very successful weekend, long may it continue. :clap:

I wonder how the lads down in Cork got on?  :?:

Education is important, but flying RC planes and gliders is importanter!

While all the married piots were getting extra special attention from their good ladies, ( full body massage, after sun on their faces) this weiry man put together a few shots from the weekend.

Excellent weekend Richard. Sorry I could only make it for the Sunday, but maidened two models (Discus & Fiu) and really enjoyed my day (& the sausages!)

Great weekends flying at Moneymore, thanks to all the pilots who came along, and a big thanks to our resident cook ' Hot dog Boyd', I never want to see another Hotdog for at least a year, the diet has gone out the window after all those super hotdogs I ate :P

Now I have a bit of time I'll expand a bit on the two maidens at the weekend.

My Fiu has been in the air before, but not particularly sucessfully! I was taking dogs abuse for having a little pink model. :?  But after a bit of radio tweaking (60% expo on Richards advice) John launched it and I managed 3 or 4 circuits, climbing most of the time before dumb fingers tipped stalled it in. Being very light there was no damage :D It needs the left aileron straightened, as there is quite a significant twist in it and after that should be a good light - medium wind model. I also need to do somethin about the aerial, at the moment there's twice the length of the plane in aerial dangling behind it!! Can't be helping the balance :shock:

The other model was an electric powered Jamara Discus CS. It has a BRC 300w motor in the nose, 3S 2300 lipo and 10 x 6 prop. Richard launched and it climbed away lovely at a nice 60 degree angle. Got up to about 300ft and cut the motor. It flew beautifully for a  minute or two and then I started getting glitching the right wing dropped hard a couple oftimes and I decided it was time to bring it in. A reasonable circuit and down with no damage. I've had problems with that receiver before (webra 6). It's now in the bin! Get a bit of cash together and I may have to think about 2.4 :?:

All in all for me an excellent day with two models reasonably sorted . Brilliant!

An interesting post Bill,…thanks for sharing your experiences.

You’ve been flying longer than I have so I don’t feel there is any real feed back I can give you other than to suggest that you certainly do save up your pennies. (As a Scotsman I’d have thought that was instinctive!  :lol: ) and move over to 2.4
In the hundreds of hours flying that I’ve done, powered and gliding, I’ve never experienced a single ‘glitch moment’ on 2.4

Hi Bill your little pink model did really well in the lite lift !
Its a real mans plane  :roll:
So did your powered glider.
I suppose I do preach alot when it comes to radio gear and model setup.
First the radio gear, please please everyone buy good quality radio gear, servos batteries etc. Some people spend a fortune on planes and then put in cheap nasty Hobby king gear, most of it being total crap.
Why lose a plane over the head of saving a few quid. Most companies like Horizon Hobbies give you real guarentees ! There aint much guarentee from Hong Kong !
Next it is plane setup, so many times I see beautiful planes with servos not centered ! balance points off a mile, flexing pushrods, loss servos, etc etc.
If you are unsure about how to trim or set up a plane then ask a fellow club member, read some very interesting info on plane setup that can be found on the web. Other tip is please donot go by what you may read on forums, unless it is a well proven pilot. Some info on forums come from people that can " talk the talk" but unable to "walk the walk"
